Abstract

Im Rahmen eines E + E-Vorhabens wurden von 1997 bis 2001 Maßnahmen zum Schutz und ur Entwicklung der Würfelnatter (Natrix tessellata) und ihrer Flussauen-Lebensräume an drei Erprobungsstandorten (Elbe, Mosel, Lahn) umgesetzt und durch eine unfassende Öffentlichkeits- und Medienarbeit begleitet. An der Elbe wurden nach Durchführung habitatverbessernder Arbeiten nachgezüchtet Jungtiere an dem früheren Vorkommensstandortbei Meißen erfolgreich angesiedelt. An der Lahn wurden durch Pflegemaßnahmen offene Kiesauen wiederhergestellt und zwei neue Gründerpopulationen durch die Umsiedlung von Tieren etabliert. an der Mosel wurde der verfügbare Lebensraum durch wasserbauliche und landschaftsgestaltende Umbaumaßnahmen erheblich erweitert.

English Abstract

In a testing and developping project carried out from 1997 to 2001, measures were undertaken in three test localities (Elbe, Mosel, Lahn) to protect and develop the populations and riverine habitats of the dice snake (Natrix tessellata), accompanied by extensive public awareness-raising and media work. On the river Elbe a former habitat was improved and captive bred hatchlings were reintroduced successfully. On the river Lahn open gravel areas were recreated and two new base-populations were established. On the river Mosel the available habitat was considerably extended by reconstructionof the watercourse and reconfiguration of the landscape.
