English Abstract

Prato Provincial Administration carried out management interventions on secondary grasslands, by bush cutting and planned grazing, in order to protect habitat and birds of Comunity Interest in SCIIT5150001″LaCalvana”. These actions have been funded with a LIFE Project and a subsequent Regional co-financing. During 2002- 2007, bird surveys has been carried out in the main intervention area (24 hectares) and in control areas. Colonization and increasing of Red-backed Shrike (even 8 pairs per 24 ha) seems to be the most considerable element, as this species is one of the main target within LIFE Project and SCI is one of the species’ strongholds in Northern Tuscany. In the other SCI’s grasslands this species appeare to be stable during 2002-2007, whereas it showed a moderate decreasing trend at a regional level.
