English Abstract

The breeding
population of Lapwing in the lower
Somme Valley (Somme
département, N France), monitored
from 1994 to 2 0 0 3 , tends to
decrease. A trend recorded in plots
under agri-environmental measures
and those that were not, although a
slight improvement has been noted since the late
90s in the former. The population drop seems to
be linked to a decrease in number and in size of
grazed plots. Horse rather than cattle grazing is
better suited for conservation, and possible
recovery, of Lapwing population.
