Abstract

Im Kölner Aquarium wurden seit kurz nach der Eröffnung 1971 Bindenwarane gehalten. Erste Zuchtpläne entwickelten sich zu Zuchtabsichten für diese große Monitorart. Die erste Paarung fand 1993 statt, was zu einer Gelege von 6 Eiern führte, von denen nur ein Exemplar geschlüpft ist. 1994 wurde ein zweites Gelege produziert. In den folgenden Jahren 1995 und 1996 wurden jedes Jahr zwei Gelege hervor gebracht. Siebzehn Bindenwarane sind 4 Jahre lang aus insgesamt sechs Gelegen geschlüpft. Es werden sowohl die Haltungsbedingungen als auch die Brutbedingungen (z.B. Inkubationssubstrat, Inkubationstemperatur, Entwicklung der Jungen) berichtet. Besonderes Augenmerk wird auf variable Inkubationszeiten bei gleichen und unterschiedlichen Inkubationstemperaturen gelegt. Die Suppression von Individuen wurde in Gruppen von Jungtieren beobachtet. Aggressivität im Brutpaar beendete 1997 die Vermehrung von Bindenwaranen im Kölner Aquarium.

English Abstract

Water monitors have been kept at the Cologne Aquarium since shortly after the opening in 1971. Initial husbandry plans developed into breeding intentions for this large monitor species. The first copulation took place in 1993, resulting in a clutch of 6 eggs from which only one specimen hatched. In 1994 a second clutch was produced. During the following years 1995 and 1996 two clutches were laid each year. Seventeen water monitors hatched during 4 years from a total of six clutches. Husbandry conditions as well as breeding conditions (i.e. incubation substrate, incubation temperature, development of the young) are reported. Special emphasis is given to variable incubation times at the same and different incubation temperatures. Suppression of individuals was observed in groups of hatchlings. Aggression in the breeding pair terminated the reproduction of water monitors at the Cologne Aquarium in 1997.
