English Abstract

The way urban parks are renovated and their wildlife impoverished at the same time is increasingly criticised by both local communities and naturalists. Therefore, data on the impact of park renovation on breeding birds should be provided as they are considered an indicator of the overall wildlife status in the parks.This paper is based on the results of inventories of breeding birds in three Warsaw parks carried out prior to their renovation (2005–2013) and from one year up to 11 years after renovation. Reference data were obtained from another (not renovated) Warsaw park, the birdlife of which was investigated during the same period. After the renovation of these parks, between one fourth to one half of the breeding bird species were lost, and the size of their populations decreased in the same proportion (Table 1, Fig. 6).
