Abstract

English Abstract

This study verified the overall effect of flush discharge released from a reservoir on the riverbed condition in a field. Flush discharge increased the ratio of loose stone and hydraulic conductivity, indicating that the riverbed was disturbed, and decreased the volume of chlorophyll-a (an index of algal biomass), and organic matter collected in backwater. The flush discharge required to increase hydraulic conductivity was 20 m3/s, and the calculated sectio l mean velocity was 1.1-1.8 m/s. A flush discharge of 10 m3/s and the sectio l mean velocity of 1.5 m/s affected algae attached on stones. The present and previous studies suggested that flush discharge flaked off and renewed attached algae, and improved spawning environment of fish and the growth environment of fish eggs in bed material as well as the habitat of aquatic insects, algae, and aquatic plants.
