Abstract

Der Wildtierübergang über die Autobahn A1/A48 am Autobahnkreuz Wittlich (Rheinland-Pfalz) wurde als Kompensation für die zu erwartende Habitatfragmentierung und -zerstörung durch den Bau der Bundesstraße B50neu errichtet. Die Population der Mauereidechse (Podarcis muralis) an der Wildtierkreuzung wurde im Rahmen eines Effizienzmonitorings im Jahr 2011 untersucht. Die Frage war, ob die Passage eine Lebensraumverbindung oder sogar ein Lebensraum für die streng geschützte Mauereidechse sein könnte. Es zeigte sich, dass die untersuchte Wildtierkreuzung ein optimaler Sekundärlebensraum für Mauereidechsen ist. Um eine hohe Vielfalt an Lebensräumen auf der grünen Brücke zu ermöglichen, wurde der Boden an der Wildtierüberquerung nicht, wie sonst üblich, eingeebnet und bietet daher viele Mikrostrukturen für Eidechsen und Kleintiere, wie z.B. Wirbellose. Die Holzwände, die die Brücke umzäunten und die Oberfläche vor Fahrzeuglicht schützten, erwiesen sich als beliebter Ort zum Sonnenbaden und zur Wärmeregulierung, der den Eidechsen auch Schutz vor Raubtieren bot. Das Sandbett zur Aufnahme von Wildtieren auf der Wildtierüberquerung wird für die Eiablage genutzt. Durch die Verwendung von Fang-Wiederfang zählt die Population der Mauereidechse etwa 90 Individuen auf der ~0,25 ha großen Fläche der Wildtierdurchquerung. Etwa die Hälfte der Population scheint an der Wildtierüberquerung stationär zu sein, die andere Hälfte scheint mobil zu sein. Die Ergebnisse des Effizienzmonitorings deuten darauf hin, dass Wildtierdurchgänge nicht nur für die Verbindung von Lebensräumen von Mauereidechsen geeignet sind, sondern dass Wildtierdurchgänge auch selbst ein bevorzugter Lebensraum sein können.

English Abstract

The wildlife crossing across the Autobahn A1/A48 at the motorway junction at Wittlich (Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany) was built as a compensation measurement for the expected habitat fragmentation and destruction due to the construction of the Bundesstraße B50neu. The population of Common Wall Lizard (Podarcis muralis) located on the wildlife crossing was investigated in the framework of an efficiency monitoring in the year 2011. The question was whether the passage could be a habitat connection or even a habitat for the strictly protected Common Wall Lizard. It became apparent that the investigated wildlife crossing is an optimal secondary habitat for Common Wall Lizards. In order to allow a high diversity of habitats on the green bridge, the ground on the wildlife crossing was not leveled, as it is usually done., therefore offering lots of microstructures for lizards and small animals, like invertebrates. The wooden walls fencing the bridge and protecting the surface from automobile light turned out to be a popular spot for sunbasking and thermoregulation, which also offered the lizards protection from predators. The sand bed for monitoring game animals on the wildlife crossing is used for egg oviposition. By using capture-recapture the determined Common Wall Lizard population counts about 90 individuals on the ~0.25 ha big area of the wildlife-crossing. About the half of the population seems to be stationary on the wildlife crossing, the other half seems to be mobile. The results of the efficiency monitoring suggest that wildlife-crossings are not only suitable for connecting habitats of Common Wall Lizards, wildlife-crossings may also be a preferred habitat itself.
