Abstract

No abstract. Before, during and after the remotion of vegetation in a river, the project translocated Galapago´s turtles.  A total of 29 specimens were detected: 23 during the samplings (nine subadults, seven females and seven males); three during the operation of the backhoe and three during the manual clearing. Only one dead specimen was found crushed by the machinery and two others were slightly injured for the same reason. Thus, of the total number of turtles found, 3.5% suffered direct mortality and 20.7% was not found in the sampling phase. Of the six tortoises found during the performance, 16.7% died and 33.4% suffered injuries.
