Abstract

La population du Mérou Brun a été recensée visuellement en plongée (apnée et scaphandre) en octobre 1993, 1996 et 1999. Cette population a beaucoup évolué par rapport à ses états antérieurs et au cours des six dernières années: I) un très fort accroissement des effectifs et de la biomasse correspondante a été observé entre 1993 et 1999; II) au cours de la même période, la structure en classes de taille a varié à chaque recensement, mais, dans tous les cas, elle différait nettement de celle qui existait autrefois par une proportion beaucoup plus grande d'individus de taille petite et moyenne; III) la répartition spatiale de la population s'étend maintenant à l'ensemble du parc grâce à l’établissement des mérous petits et moyens dans les petits fonds rocheux, tandis que les plus grands individus sont toujours concentrés sur la côte sud-est de Port-Cros et autour de l'îlot de la Gabinière.

English Abstract

Brown Grouper population was surveyed visually while diving (free-diving and scuba diving) in October 1993, 1996 and 1999. This population has evolved considerably compared to its previous states and over the past six years:
I) a very strong increase in numbers and biomass was observed between 1993 and 1999;
II) during the same period, the size class structure varied with each census, but always differed markedly from the past population, by a much larger proportion of small and medium-sized individuals ;
III) the spatial distribution of the population now extends to the entire park thanks to the establishment of small and medium groupers in the shallow rocky bottoms, while the largest individuals are always concentrated on the southeast coast of Port-Cros and around the Gabinière islet.
