Abstract

La population de corbs (Sciaena umbra) du Parc national de Port-Cros (PNPC) a été recensée en mai et décembre 2005 avec la même technique de comptage et le même protocole d’échantillonnage des habitats qu’en 1990, 1995 et 1999. Au total, 179 individus en mai et 263 en décembre ont été vus dans 14 sites (respectivement 55 et 96 kg de biomasse). La taille moyenne des individus était de 28-29 cm LT. Les individus de tailles extrêmes (15 cm et 50 cm) étaient peu représentés. Les individus solitaires étaient rares et les groupes les plus importants rassemblaient de 35 (Malalongue) à 52 individus de taille variée (Bagaud sud). La profondeur de rencontre a varié de 2 à 23 m, avec une moyenne d’environ 9 m. Les habitats fréquentés comprenaient quasiment toujours des blocs avec des abris sous roche, et très fréquemment des posidonies. Ces recensements confirment l’accroissement constant de la population de corbs du PNPC : population multipliée par 6 de 1990 à 2005 et +12% de 1999 à 2005 au printemps. La série de 34 recensements depuis 1983 du site de Malalongue, indique qu’il y a eu entre 1990 et 1993 un changement de régime dans la fréquentation de ce site avec une augmentation nette (x 4) du nombre moyen d’individus présents en dehors de la période estivale. L’accroissement général de la population dans le PNPC est attribué à l’effet combiné de la protection et du changement climatique pouvant favoriser cette espèce plutôt méridionale. Le bon état de cette population et sa progression contrastent avec la rareté de ce poisson dans les zones non protégées. Une protection renforcée du corb est hautement souhaitable en dehors des aires marines protégées.

English Abstract

The population of brown meagre (Sciaena umbra L.) in the
national Park of Port-Cros (PNPC) has been censused visually by diving in May and
December 2005 using the same technique and sampling strategy as in 1990, 1995 and
1999. Overall, 179 individuals in May and 263 individuals in December 2005 were counted
at 14 sites (respectively 55 kg and 96 kg in biomass). The individual size (TL) ranged
from 15 cm to 50 cm and the mean was 28-29 cm. Solitary individuals were rare and the
largest groups included as many as 35 individuals (Malalongue) and 52 individuals
(Bagaud sud). These groups included variously sized individuals. Shallow rocky bottoms
with boulders providing cryptic shelters and patches of Posidonia oceanica were the preferred
habitat. The encounter depth was about 9 m on average and ranged from 2 to 23
m depth. The comparison of these results with the previous censuses attests that the
population of brown meagre is still increasing in the PNPC after 42 years of protection.
Numbers have sextupled since 1990 and a 12% increase was observed in spring between
1999 and 2005. The series of censuses since 1983 at one of the richest sites (Malalongue)
shows that a regime shift in the frequentation of this site by the brown meagre occurred
between 1990 and 1993 with a clear increase (x 4) in the mean number of individuals
observed during the cold season. The general increase in the population of this fish in the
PNPC may be attributed to the combined effect of protection and climate change, which
could enhance the dynamics of this southern species. The good state of the PNPC population
contrasts with the general scarcity of the brown meagre in non-protected areas
and stresses the need for protection measures for this highly vulnerable fish.
