Abstract

An den Berliner Gewässern kam es ab etwa 1960 durch anthropogene Einflüsse zu einem massiven Röhrichtrückgang. Durch den Bau von uferparallelen Wellenbrechern aus Kiefernpfählen und der Neuanpflanzung von Schilf konnte eine Wiederausbreitung erreicht werden. Dazu wurde ein luftbildbasiertes Röhrichtmonitoring entwickelt, das eine Erfolgskontrolle dieser Maßnahmen ermöglicht. Die Luftbildauswertung ergab, dass im Jahr 1990 die gesamte Röhrichtfläche der Berliner Gewässer nur noch 37% des Ausgangsbestands von 1953 betrug. Bis 2010 wuchs der Gesamtbestand wieder auf 46% des Ausgangsbestands von 1953 an. Aus heutiger Sicht sind diese Maßnahmen als ein wichtiger Beitrag zur Verbesserung des ökologischen Zustands zu betrachten und können auch an anderen Gewässern mit schiffsinduziertem Wellenschlag zum Schutz von Flachwasserzonen und Röhrichten zur Anwendung kommen.

English Abstract

Due to negative anthopogenic impacts the reed associated with Berlin waters declined severely from around 1960 onwards. Recolonisation has been achieved by constructing wooden breakwaters in parallel with the shoreline and by means of planting. In addition, a monitoring system with aerial images was developed, providing a basis for results monitoring. The earial survey showed that in 1990 the entire area of all reed stands covered only 37% of the original total area of Berlin waters in 1953. By 2005 the total reed area had increased again up to 46% of the 1953 level. Concerning the present day, these measures can be seen as a substantial contribution to the improvement of the ecological status of Berlin waters. They can also be applied to other intensively used waters to preserve shallow water zones and reed beds
